Methodology

How IdeaScanner researches your market — transparently.

What We Analyze

Every report is built from live data collected at the time of your order. We query 50+ data sources in parallel to build a comprehensive picture of your market. These include:

  • Search demand data — Keyword volume, CPC, and difficulty scores from live keyword APIs. This tells us whether people are actively searching for what you want to build.
  • SERP analysis — Current search rankings, featured snippets, and content gaps. This shows who dominates the search landscape and where openings exist.
  • Search trend trajectories — 12-month and 5-year interest curves from Google Trends. This reveals whether demand is rising, flat, or declining.
  • Competitor traffic analytics — Monthly visits, traffic sources, and engagement metrics for your competitors via Similarweb data.
  • AI-powered deep research — Market sizing (TAM/SAM/SOM), competitive landscape analysis, and strategic recommendations synthesized from all collected data.

How the Pipeline Works

The research engine runs an 8-step pipeline:

  1. Input processing — Your idea description, target market, audience, and competitor list are parsed and structured.
  2. Keyword extraction — Relevant search terms are identified from your description and industry context.
  3. Parallel data collection — Multiple data scripts run simultaneously: keyword analysis, SERP scraping, trend analysis, competitor traffic pulls, and deep research.
  4. Cross-referencing — Each data source is compared against the others. A keyword with high volume but no competitor traffic tells a different story than one with both.
  5. AI synthesis — After all structured data is collected, AI models analyze the combined evidence to produce market sizing, gap analysis, and strategic recommendations.
  6. Quality checks — The report is validated for completeness and data consistency.
  7. Report generation — An interactive HTML report with charts, tables, and cited data points is built.
  8. Delivery — The report is stored securely and delivered to your email, typically within 30–60 minutes.

What the Report Evaluates

The report is designed to answer one question: should you invest time and money into this idea?

To answer that, it evaluates:

  • Whether real people are searching for what you want to build (search demand)
  • How competitive the market already is (competitor traffic and positioning)
  • Whether demand is growing or declining (trend trajectories)
  • How large the addressable market is (TAM/SAM/SOM)
  • Where competitors are exposed and where gaps exist (competitive analysis)
  • What the data points to as the best next steps (strategic recommendations)

The final Go/No-Go recommendation is issued only after all these signals are cross-checked against each other.

What the Results Mean

The Go/No-Go recommendation is a data-backed assessment, not a guarantee. A “Go” means the data shows meaningful demand, manageable competition, and identifiable opportunity. A “No-Go” means the evidence suggests significant risk factors that should give you pause.

The confidence score reflects how much data was available and how consistent the signals were across sources. Higher confidence means more data points aligned in the same direction.

Limitations

We believe in being upfront about what this tool can and cannot do:

  • This is a decision-support tool, not a crystal ball. No analysis can predict business outcomes with certainty. The report gives you evidence to make a better-informed decision.
  • Data availability varies by market. Some niches, geographies, or very early-stage categories may have limited data. The report will clearly indicate when data is sparse.
  • Third-party data has inherent limitations. Traffic estimates, ad spend figures, and market sizing numbers are approximations based on the best available data panels. They are directionally accurate, not exact.
  • The AI layer synthesizes — it does not invent. The AI analysis is grounded in the structured data collected during the pipeline. However, any AI-generated text should be evaluated critically.
  • Market conditions change. The report reflects data at the time of generation. Markets shift, competitors enter and exit, and demand patterns evolve.

Our Commitment

We built IdeaScanner because we believe founders deserve real data before making real bets. Every design decision in the pipeline prioritizes accuracy over impressiveness. If the data is unclear, we say so. If signals conflict, we show you both sides.
